God Wink

I was sitting in the peaceful ambience of a restaurant at Fond Deux, St. Lucia, when a man I had briefly met the day before approached me. He asked, “Do you know the meaning of ‘God’s wink’?” I said no, and he explained that it refers to a seemingly coincidental event or personal experience interpreted as a sign of Divine intervention or a message from God.

He then shared a story of many “God winks, ” describing a recent experience in downtown Castries. He was walking past a store named “Eugene,” which is also his own name. When he went inside to ask about the store’s nature, he was told it was a seamstress’s shop. He also mentioned that his mother worked as a seamstress in a garment factory in New York, USA, for many years. He saw this as a “God wink” – a moment where God used this coincidence to communicate with him.

After he left, I looked up “God winks” online and found a blogger named Andy Otto, who wrote a piece titled “God Winks.” In it, he shared a personal story of “God winks” and concluded by saying, “For all the focus I put on finding God in all things, I sometimes forget that God can find me. God winks are little, sometimes humorous, reminders that God wants to tap me on the shoulder and say, ‘ Hey, I’m still here! Don’t forget me!’”

This reminded me of a “God wink” from several months earlier. I reached the Mammee Bay toll booth in Jamaica and didn’t have enough money to pay. The cashier asked me to reverse and park while I figured out how to pay. Shortly after, a stranger approached and offered to pay my toll.

I believe this was not a coincidence but a “God wink” – a sign of Divine intervention.

When was your last ” God wink ” moment?
