Revolutionary Spirit

The poor gets poorer. The rich gets richer.

That’s the goal of the invented and manufactured economic systems of the West.

The poor fights for basic needs and suffers under the pandemic. But the rich benefits from the pandemic.

Who will stop this vicious cycle?

My friend Jordan McGregor posted on Facebook:

“So. . I am forced to use an ATM machine . . . banks will not facilitate you at a teller anymore. . .  You mean to tell me you are forcing me to pay to get my own money out of MY account? (30.95) per transaction. . . And on top it all you are lending my money out to others at a high interest rate and only giving me .25% per annum??   HOW IS THIS NOT CRIMINAL?  BOJ [BANK OF JAMAICA] has the strength for certain entities I see. Duppy know who fi frighten.”

Chicken price in Jamaica keeps rising. The only solution the current government has is to consider removing the tariffs on imported leg parts, in the name of protecting, who, the poor! Then the rich importers will bring in trailer loads of legs parts, dump them in the market cheap, cheap, cheap. And who suffers?  The poor chicken farmer.

Did you read the report of The Jamaica Education Transformation Commission?  In the preface it says, “. . . the education on which we have pinned so many of our hopes . . . is itself entangled in three major crises. It has failed to educate a majority of children in what the World Bank calls a ‘learning crisis’. . .”  Who are the majority?  They make up the prison population, windscreen wipers, unskilled construction, hotel and waste management workers, domestic helpers, among others.

Personally, I am tired of praying for a major socio-economic transformation. What do I pray for now?  I pray for an outpouring of a revolutionary spirit to fight for justice – the revolutionary spirit that empowered the likes of Nelson Mandela, Martin Luther King, and Oscar Romero.

Will you join me in this prayer?

“There can be no justice without peace, and there can be no peace without justice.”

Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr
