Authentic Love

Authentic love, a paradox in itself, is found in vulnerability.

Vulnerability is like stripping yourself naked before the Other and the other, opening our hearts, minds, souls and bodies, revealing the rawness of our Graced imperfection.

The Other sees our Graced imperfection, a beauty marked by wrinkles, cracks, brokenness, and wounds.

The Other sees the magnificence in our nakedness and embraces us with warmth, mercy, and gentleness, protecting us from destruction.

Sometimes, the other is blinded to our innate beauty and prefers to steer judgingly at our imperfections.

Sometimes, the other abuses, misuses, and scandalises our imperfections.

Sometimes, the other envies, covets, and vandalises our beauty.

How do we find the Other in this conundrum? How does the Other find us in this conundrum?

Amid the deep emotional and spiritual pain of the abuse of nakedness, the Other finds the Graced imperfection in the Saints and the saints, and they find the Other – the Diamond, in the deep, dark, dreary caves of their lives.

  1. Fr. Don, this is such clever writing … how you weave between the Other and the other! I love it! And the use of capital letters was not lost on me. Beautiful piece!
