Relationships

We enter relationships
either as a destination or a journey.

If we enter relationships as a destination,
we desire
perfection, performance, and precision.
We expect
immediate self-satisfaction, self-service, and sensual pleasure.
We become
self-driven, self-focused, and self-absorbed.
We envision life as a
highway, high-speed, and highly competitive.
We abandon the journey when there are
Fight, flight, freeze, or fawn.
We race and compete for a prize.

If we enter relationships as a journey,
we are
patient, perceptive, and persistent.
We expect
faithfulness, forgiveness, and forbearance.
We anticipate
growth, giving, and generosity of spirit.
We invest in
self-development, self-sacrifice, and self-evaluation.
We embrace life as
slow, snaking, and sluggish.
We experience
conversion, co-responsibility and courage.

Life is a journey towards many destinations.
Live, love, and lean into life as a journey,
and the destinations arise in unexpected and surprising ways.
