A Toddler’s Grace

“Blessed are your eyes that see what you are seeing! (Luke 10:23-24)

Thinking about this passage, I realise there’s a difference between seeing something on the surface and grasping its underlying meaning or significance. I can take a situation at face value, but I can also catch the message behind what I see or hear.

As I sit in contemplation, I imagine myself as a toddler, feeling relaxed and carefree, with no worries about the past or the future. I’m fully present, wrapped up in the comfort of my parents’ arms, totally lost in the moment. I picture myself as this toddler resting in God’s arms. I recall the words of the Prophet Isaiah, “Rejoice, Jerusalem… that you may be suckled, filled from her consoling breasts, that you may savour with delight her glorious breast.” (Is. 66:10-11). I pray for the grace of a toddler to be aware of God’s eternal presence. A toddler lives in the present and deeply senses the importance of a parent’s presence.

Praying:

“Lord, as I go through my days, I encounter countless situations and experiences that I witness, hear, or feel. These experiences sweep past me like a mighty river, bearing a wealth of information and significance. Often, Lord, I overlook the deeper meaning hidden within these events because of my preconceptions or the hectic pace of life. Lord, help me to slow down and appreciate the moment. Help me to find You amidst the tumult of life’s rivers.”
