Creation and Sound

Every living thing is born with the ability to produce sound through movement.
The crash of ocean waves,
The thunder of a volcanic eruption,
The clicking of insect wings,
The voice of humans,
The hum of whales,
The fluttering wings of hummingbirds.

Every living being is born with the ability to perceive sound.
Patrons absorbing the thumping beat of dancehall music.
Worshippers hearing the preached Word of God.
The deaf sense the vibrations of speech.
Insects’ antennae pick up on vibrations.

Every created being is born with the ability to respond to sound.
The turning of a toddler’s head towards his or her parent’s voice,
The scampering of a flock of zebras in response to lions’ footsteps,
The migration of birds towards distant storm sounds,
The frozen or fleeing body reacting to gunshots,
The butterfly-like movement of the stomach in response to expressions of “I love you”.

God has given us hearts that listen. Let's pay attention to the wise words of the Psalmist:

“Be still and know that I am God" (Psalm 46:10).

“O that today you would listen to His voice! Harden not your hearts” (Psalm 95:7). If today you would listen to the voice of God, don't harden your hearts.
